Titles
AKC Titles
Junior Courser (JC)- A JC title or
certificate is given to a hound that successfully completes a course (alone) at
two different AKC tests, on two different days, under two different licensed AKC
judges. Once a hound earns their JC certificate, they can be entered in
the "Open Stake" at AKC licensed trials.
Note: Despite having a JC title, it is a good idea to ensure your
hound runs "clean" with other dogs before you enter them in an "Open
Stake"
Senior Courser (SC)- An SC title is given
to a hound that successfully completes four "clean" Open Stake runs with
competition, under two different judges or judging panels, at four licensed
trials.
Note: To qualify the hound must earn at least 50% of the total
possible combined scores from the preliminary and final run.
Field Champion (FC)- A FC title is given to
a hound that obtains 15 Championship points, including two first placements of
3, 4 or 5 points, under two different judges or judging panels. See points
breakdown below:

Master Courser (MC)- After earning an SC title (4 trials), the hound must continue to qualify for an additional 25 trials. The hound does NOT have to place or be awarded points.
Lure Courser Excellent (LCX)- In order for a hound to earn a LCX title it must have already earned an FC title and accumulated an additional 45 pts. from the Special Stakes.
Notes:
(1) In case you were wondering about
Stakes. An "Open Stake" is open to hounds that have obtained at
least the following: AKC JC, AKC FC,
ASFA FCh, or Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) FCh. Special Stakes are
open to AKC FC's only!
(2) The AKC FC title is added as a
permanent prefix to the hound's registered name- the JC, SC and MC
certificates are added as suffixes.
DC, or Dual Champion, is added as a prefix when the AKC breed
champion finishes his or her field
title.
ASFA Titles
ASFA Certification- Before a hound can be entered in an ASFA Open Stake it must first have run a "Certification" run. This run or certification must be witnessed by a licensed ASFA judge that the hound has completed a course of at least 500 yds., with another hound of the same breed or a breed with a similar running style, without interfering with that hound.
Notes:
(1) The hound must be at least 11
mos. old to be certified, but still can't run before it is 1 yr. old.
(2) An AKC Junior Courser certificate
does NOT qualify.
Field Champion (FCh)- A hound earns a Field Champion title when it has obtained 100 points and either two first placements or one first and two second placements, with qualifying competition. See points breakdown below:
